The Kingdom Development Organ (KIDO) is leveraging the strength of the Church of Uganda’s vast membership over 18 million people to mobilize resources at an unprecedented scale. With diocesan targets set at UGX 1.2 billion annually and a provincial target of UGX 46.8 billion, the initiative is channeling funds into three critical pillars: education infrastructure, health services, and mission work.

This model ensures that every contribution, whether daily, weekly, or annually, becomes part of a collective pool that strengthens both individuals and institutions.

Direct Benefits to Members

KIDO’s membership system is designed to provide tangible financial empowerment:

  • Fixed Deposit Accounts: Each member’s annual fee opens a fixed deposit account with higher-than-normal interest rates, even for small deposits.
  • Unit Trust Investments: Members gain access to long-term investment vehicles that compound savings and grow wealth.
  • Loans for Entrepreneurship: Qualifying dioceses and members can access loans to start businesses, create jobs, and support parish-level projects.
  • Provident Fund Security: Contributions are treated as provident funds, ensuring long-term financial stability for members and their families.

Benefits to Dioceses and Parishes

KIDO’s model is not only individual-focused but also institutional:

  • Revenue Sharing: Up to 40% of proceeds are remitted back to dioceses after quarterly declarations of interest.
  • Transparent Distribution:
    • 50% allocated to individual members for education and health
    • 25% to parishes
    • 15% to dioceses
    • 10% to the provincial secretariat for administration
  • Local Development: Funds are directed into modernizing schools, upgrading hospitals, and supporting mission and evangelism activities.

Transformative Impact

The Provincial Treasurer explained: “Harnessing the church’s large numbers means transforming lives. Every contribution, no matter how small, becomes part of a collective effort to modernize schools, improve hospitals, and empower families.”

Already, dioceses are reporting increased capacity to fund parish-level projects, while members are experiencing the benefits of savings and insurance schemes that were previously inaccessible.

The Bigger Picture

KIDO’s financial empowerment strategy is more than just numbers it is about community transformation. By pooling resources, the Church of Uganda is:

  • Revamping education infrastructure to ensure quality learning environments.
  • Expanding healthcare access through insurance and facility upgrades.
  • Supporting clergy, retired church workers, and vulnerable members with medical and financial security.
  • Creating sustainable investment vehicles that guarantee long-term growth for the church and its members.

Looking Ahead

With clear annual targets and a transparent distribution model, KIDO is positioning itself as a game-changer in faith-driven development. The initiative demonstrates how collective contributions, guided by Biblical principles, can uplift entire communities and ensure that “there shall be no poor among you.”
